IT'S NOT YOU, IT'S TORONTO.
On August 19th Chiodos touched down in Toronto for the first time in nearly a decade, bringing along with them a stacked lineup of musical chaos for the "It's Not You, It's Me tour.
Second Harbour were first to take the stage and bless The Concert Hall with their melodic & energy! the Canadian natives bring a midwest emo sound with heavier undertones which creates the perfect sound to vibe along with or to get a mosh pit going. Their tracks "Relative" & "The Most Dangerous Game" capture that description perfectly! The Montreal trio shredded for 30 minutes straight and gave the crowd a captivating introduction for what's to come up next.
Up next in The Concert Hall was sace6, a band who is becoming quite familiar in Toronto with their multiple shows to have taken place here the past 24 months. This tour stop in specific has extra importance due to the band working full force and recently signing with Sumerian Records along with releasing their debut album "brutalist". Their set was curated full of new material from the project including lead singles "ego" & "covet" which showcase the unique blending of genres and guitar tones sace6 are using to create their own one of a kind sound. The band ended their set with "fabulist" which is by far the most brutal track off the album and finished the night with "devotion" from their EP "Limerence".
When it came time for the co-headliner, the hall was packed front to back! 156/Silence is a metal powerhouse from Pittsburgh and they don't mess around. The energy in the room instantly switched and upped the angst. The floor opened up with a massive mosh pit and crowd surfers started to flow towards the stage. The band has a new project set to release on September 4th titled "From a Distance" and performed multiple tracks off the album. The songs "No Arms" & "Proxy Idols" are absolutely insane minutes of live music you need to witness. The bands sound on this record so far incorporates their groovy hardcore style and incorporates mathcore and nu-metal elements making you feel like you can two-step through silent hill. 156 also played "Control Burns" & "Swept From Under" off of the album before finishing off their set with a few fan favorite tracks being "Blood Loss" & "Upset".
The time finally came for what everyone has been waiting 9 years for, Chiodos takes the stage in Toronto Ontario. Walking out to "All Nereids Beware" started the trip down nostalgia lane. Along with "TAPDAT" their most recent release, which takes their iconic sound and blends it within modern production to create an anthemic art piece that will go down as a staple in their catalogue. Chiodos showed everyone in attendance exactly why they are still carrying the post-hardcore sound 20 years later! Celebrating the legendary album "All's Well That Ends Well" The setlist was filled with tracks from throughout the record along with "A Letter From Janelle" & "Bulls Make Money, Bears Make Money, Pigs Get Slaughtered" the room was ear piercing with the crowd singing every possible lyric, it was a moment in time everyone will keep with them.
Chiodos and the supporting artists are on the " It's Not You, It's Me" tour from now until August 29th in Nashville. The tour has being going strong and is one you need to check out before its over!
